October 11, 2025 – Humility Discussion by James Castruccio

  1. Don’t ask a question that you are not prepared to hear answered

My Dad taught me to not ask a question that you don’t already know the answer to when you are leading people.

Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Psalm 139:19-22 NIV
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.

Am I prepared to hear the Lord’s answer?

What do I need to do differently to be comfortable asking Him?

  1. Servant Leadership

There are managers and leaders. Great ones do not lord their authority over others.

Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

How do I lead those entrusted to us?

  1. Wait until your father gets home

Growing up the scariest thing my mom could say to me was, “Wait until your father gets home”.

Matthew 18:3 NIV
“And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Flipping the script; one of the greatest things my kids can say is, “I need to ask my dad”.

Is there anything I need to change in my life to not worry about my Father coming home?

Is there anything I need to ask my Dad?

  1. Which Kingdom commands your loyalties?

While we live in the world, are we living of the world? The question of loyalty hit hard when studying the first beatitudes. Have I ever asked myself, “how did I get here”? It doesn’t happen fast, but is a slow fade.

Matthew 5:3 NIV
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Where is my loyalty (on a daily basis)?

Can those around me see where my loyalty lies?
