January 5, 2024 – Prayer – Psalm 1:1-6

Psalm 1

“A Prayer”

(Dear Lord and Heavenly Farther),

1 Blessed is the one (Lord bless me) who does not walk in step with the wicked (help me not walk with the wicked , but with the righteous) or stand in the way that sinners take (keep me from standing with and doing as sinners do) or sit in the company of mockers (let me not hear or repeat their mocking),

2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD (make me as those men who delight in Your Law), and who meditates on his law day and night (and make Your Law my daily meditation).

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water (plant me by Your steam of living water), which yields its fruit in season (help me to bear fruit for You) and whose leaf does not wither—(keep Your Word and Law ever fresh in my mind) whatever they do prospers (bless all that I do so Your Kingdom will prosper).

4 Not so the wicked (not so me, keep me from wickedness)! They are like chaff that the wind blows away (do not let me be blown away as chaff).

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment (let me stand strong before You in Christ’s name), nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous (may the righteousness of Christ be on me).

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous (watch over and keep me Lord Jesus), but the way of the wicked leads to destruction (by Your Grace and the Love of Jesus Christ keep me from destruction).

Amen
