Romans 7:14-25
“A Prayer”
Dear Lord and Heavenly Father,
14 We (I) know that the law (the law of my God and Savior) is spiritual; but I am unspiritual (earthy, fleshy, sinful), sold as a slave to sin (sin from within me). 15 I do not understand what I do (my flesh and sin seem to rule me). For what I want to do I do not do (my will is there but my flesh and sin are stronger), but what I hate I do (give me strength of will dear Lord not to do the things You hate). 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good (and convicting from God and full of Love). 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me (Lord strengthen my faith, my will so that sin no longer rules me). 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me (Lord make it not so, make Your goodness dwell in me), that is, in my sinful nature (take this from me I pray). c For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out (by your power dear Lord help me to do the good You desire of me). 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing (keep me from this ongoing sin and clean my heart so I might do Your good and pleasing will). 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it (Lord purge this sin from me, clean me make me Yours).
21 So I find this law at work (and Your law is good): Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me (keep my evil thoughts and the evil one far from me I pray). 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law (Lord help me make it my outer being also); 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me (free me from this prison of sin’s law dear Lord). 24 What a wretched man I am (forgive this wretchedness)! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death (the death I deserve for the sin’s I have no ability to stop in my own power)? 25 Thanks be to God (Amen), who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord (Amen and Amen)!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law (Lord make this also my outer self), but in my sinful nature d a slave to the law of sin (Lord free me from the slavery of sin and change my nature to Yours).
AMEN and AMEN……
