Discussion Questions
● Who is someone you go to when you need advice or counsel? Why do you go to this particular person?
● Have you ever asked God to give you wisdom on a particular decision you had to make? What did you ask for wisdom on?
● How does God communicate his wisdom to us?

● Who wrote these proverbs? What is a proverb?
● Who is the author related to?
● What do you know about Solomon’s life?

Read 1 Kings 3:1-15 and 1 Kings 4:29-34
● What did Solomon ask God for?
● What was God’s response to Solomon’s request?
● What else did Solomon receive from God?
● How wise was Solomon?

The Do’s and Don’ts of the King
Read Deuteronomy 17:14-20 and 1 Kings 10:14-29 to 1 Kings 11:1-13
● What was the king of Israel to do?
● What was the king of Israel not to do?
● What can we learn from Solomon’s life and the mistakes he made?

Concluding Thoughts and Questions
● Have any of God’s blessings become an idol for you? How can we keep
God’s blessings in their rightful place?
● Should we put our hope in human rulers? Why?
● If the wisest man who ever lived could not keep God’s laws, then who
possibly can?
● How can a person keep from sinning then?
